throwing a bowl pottery wheel

My Story

I've always been interested in art and specifically pottery. I grew up playing piano, acting and singing, and always loved all forms of art. I took a wheel throwing class in high school and still have the first bowl I ever made. When I studied abroad in Florence, Italy for my junior year of college, I took a sculpture class (as you do when you're in a place like Florence!) I remember molding a piece out of clay into two hands holding onto each other. I unfortunately did not pack that masterpiece in my luggage to return home with me.

When I was pregnant with my second child, I learned about a pottery studio opening up near our house. I had a rather difficult pregnancy, and found clay a really therapeutic outlet for me. It was "me" time where I wasn't on my phone or distracted by anything, and it gave me a new challenge to learn and perfect. I took a few classes during my pregnancy, and each time I learned something new I just wanted to learn more. Once my son was born, I had no time or freedom to attend classes anymore, so with the support of my husband I setup a home studio. We converted my carpeted office into a laminate floor and bought a wheel. At first, I would tote my work back and forth to the studio, until eventually we bought a kiln so I could fire my work at home!

I am still exploring what my "style" will be, by experimenting with different shapes, sizes, glazes, etc. I hope you enjoy following along for my journey, and check out my Etsy shop to see if there's something you  might enjoy in your own home! Handmade pottery is special, each piece is completely unique, and I truly believe beautiful pottery can greatly enhance anyone's life.
